400 Meter Drills – David Neville

These two videos from Coaches Insider feature Coach David Neville (Georgia Southern, then Tennessee) talking through two different drills for 400 meter runs.

Watch as Coach explains, and a sprinter demonstrates the 400m B-Skip Drill. This is different than the A-Skip Drill as the knee will open and cycle out in front while pulling down. Make sure that the athlete has one foot on the ground at a time and that they are not reaching out then pulling the leg down. They want to be aggressive with the arms on the pull down.

Watch as Coach explains, and an athlete demonstrates using band resistance to assist with glute activation. The band should be placed just above the knees on both legs which will create more resistance to fire the glutes. The athlete will demonstrate various exercises as Coach covers the coaching points including a number of reps and proper leg movements with feet and toe positioning for each exercise.
